Dear DUSA Members and Friends,

We are delighted to invite you to attend the 2025 Sino-Foreign Controlling Forum which is going to take place on June 20th in SUZHOU.

2025 might be one of the most remarkable years for business in China: The tariffs war started by US administration hit global economy and especially China. Not only businesses selling to or sourcing from US market have been experiencing big shock and tremendous pressure on either top or bottom line, but many other companies have big concern about the short-term and long-term impact of the tariffs war on outlook for business growth and profitability in China.

But not all the news in 2025 is negative. One of the positive news at the beginning of the year might be the success story of DeepSeek which has increased awareness and popularity of AI technology in the country. Accelerated development and penetration of AI technology bring strong impulse for digital transformation of business, which may lead to increased productivity and profitability in the coming years.

While business environment in China and global markets have become increasingly volatile (V), uncertain (U), complex (C), and ambivalent (A), all companies must get ready for rising to the challenges in this VUCA world. Improving cost efficiency, maintaining liquidity and financing, bringing forward digital transformation, optimizing team and people management, as well as better communication between local operation and global HQ, ……, the agenda or to-do list for China business executives as well as for their internal consultants and business partners in finance & controlling function is long.

The 2025 Sino-Foreign Controlling Forum aims to provide a platform for information, communication, and experience sharing among finance & controlling professionals as well as non-financial managers in a time, in which good and constantly evolving controlling practice is more important than ever. Besides interesting keynote presentations, the Forum offers, just as in the previous years, breakout sessions dealing with different topics relevant for maintaining and improving business and financial performance in China.

One remarkable point of the 2025 Forum is its name: In comparison to previous years, we have changed the name of the Forum in this year, from "Sino-German Controlling Forum" to "Sino-Foreign Controlling Forum". With this change, we are welcoming more non-German companies in the foreign business community in China to join our Forum.

Looking forward to meeting old and new friends in the 2025 Forum, we wish you and your business more confidence, resilience, and success in this challenging time!

Workshop B: Digital Transformation and Automation of Processes for Overhead Functions

Haiguang Li

The competition of the manufacturing company in China is becoming more and more fierce. Not only from product perspective but also the running efficiency of internal organization.

Robotic process automation (RPA) automates repetitive, rule-based tasks traditionally performed by human workers. By deploying software robots with tools like UiPath, PowerAutomate or Python, RPA streamlines business processes, enhances operational efficiency and reduces costs. The bots can mimic human interactions with digital systems, including logging into applications, entering data and performing calculations. The result is a significant reduction in errors and an increase in productivity, allowing human employees to focus on more strategic and value-added activities.

Furthermore, latest developments in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) have widened the range of applications especially for the Indirect Areas in Administrative Tasks. So, the key question of the workshop is, How those new digital tools can help the organisation to get leaner and faster?

How It Began

The predecessor of the "Sino-Foreign Controlling Forum" was the "Sino-German Controlling Forum". The original idea for the Sino-German Controlling Forum was born in dialogue between Dr. Zhen Huang, former managing partner of Shanghai De Chen Enterprise Management Consulting Co. Ltd., Mr. Bernd Pichler who was at that time senior executive at Shanghai Volkswagen, and Prof. Dr. Utz Schaeffer from the German Business School WHU Vallendar. They were activists of "Controlling in China", which was at that time an initiative with the objective to promote the dialog between German and Chinese business and finance professionals interested in modern, efficient management accounting and controlling practice.

The first forum was held in Shanghai in October 2013. It was co-organized by Shanghai De Chen Enterprise Management Consulting Co. Ltd., CA Controller Akademie from Germany, the International Association of Controllers (ICV), and the Shanghai National Accounting Institute.

Through the involvement of the German Chamber of Commerce in China Shanghai which has taken over the role of co-organizer since 2014, the Sino-German Controlling Forum has enhanced the industry focus and put a stronger emphasis on building a bridge between German and Chinese controlling practices.

From 2021 on, Suzhou European Business Association DUSA has taken over the role of co-organizer from German Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai. It cooperates with Corporate Performance One, a management consulting and training company based in Munich/Germany, in providing the Forum as a leading annual event for finance and controlling professionals as well as non-finance senior executives and managers in Sino-German business community in East China.

As there have been more and more non-German foreign companies joining the Forum, the Forum has been renamed to "Sino-Foreign Controlling Forum" since 2025.
