November Session

Title: Transformation of Chinese SMEs in A New Era

At present, small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) in China are facing many challenges: difficulty in hiring and retaining talent and obtaining finance, high entry barriers in some cases, heavy tax, low profitability, changing regulatory environment and less than ideal infrastructures. At the same time, SMEs are contributing towards urbanisation, the development of high end industries, IT application in enterprises, service application in the economy and the move towards a low carbon and more internationalised society. Enabled by technologies, products and services, Chinese SMEs have the opportunity and the potential to play a part in the world's economic transformation and restructuring, be it the world's strategic emerging industries, innovation-led growth or the need to make the global employee more productive and versatile.
