Dear DUSA Members and Friends,
The world economy would continue to suffer from COVID-19 in 2021 before real recovery could be expected towards the end of the year. On a percentage basis, 2021 may see higher growth rates given the nosedive of 2020. Nevertheless, governments around the world need lots of head-scratching for possible innovative means in revitalizing the economies.
China is one of the very few countries to successfully deal with the situation (as of now) and only major country that may experience the positive growth in 2020. However, this recovery would not mean much if the rest of the world could not recuperate. The short-run strategy could be to focus on the domestic consumption but it has its limitations given China's vast capacity. At the same time, the rest of the world need to rely on China given its reach on a variety of matters, not only on trade but also on technology and now-health. Therefore, it is of interest of all the countries in the world, developed- developing, big- small, to cooperate to deal with the situation. The big question is: Is it going to happen so?
In October, the fifth plenary session of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China proposed major social and economic development targets for the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025). what does the 14th Five-Year Plan mean for small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises? What opportunities and challenges it will bring to SMEs？
On December 30th, 2020, the EU and China have concluded in principle the negotiations for a Comprehensive Agreement on Investment (CAI). It is one of the most significant agreement in European-Chinese relations in recent years. How will it impact day-to-day business? Can it boost innovation and cooperation in this sector for both economic powers?
We are honored to invite Mr. Xiaolong Hu to share the opinions about the the 14th Five-Year Plan; Mr. Philip Lazare to present some information about the the EU-China Investment Agreement and its possible effects on businesses. Moreover, Mr. Pat Williams, Senior Vice President Asia of Rosti Group will introduce the industry in 2020 and the development in 2021.
This is a hybrid event which will be held at the DUSA member company, "Rosti Integrated Manufacturing Solutions (Suzhou) Co., Ltd." and offer online live broadcast at the same time.
