Dear DUSA Members and Friends,

This is the last call of DUSA New Year Roundtable "China Outlook 2020" at IBSS, XJTLU on January 9, 2020.

We would like to highlight that the agenda of this event is updated.

Due to time conflicts, the speakers have changed to Alberto Batinti (Associate Professor in Economics, IBSS), Laurie Underwood (Senior Associate Professor of Management at IBSS and Senior Consultant for Sino Associates) and John Yang (Senior Consultant, Greenment Environment).

This year's Outlook will focus on the role of health and environment for the future of the Chinese economy. These two sectors will be of increasing strategic value for achieving sustainable development and social stability, and will progressively occupy the centre stage of policy-making and business opportunity.

Health and the environment are strong complements. Good health has both intrinsic values, as it improves the quality of life, and instrumental value, because it is an important determinant of the human capital accumulation needed to foster sustained growth and development. Environmental quality influences physical and psychological health critically interacts with public health and creates the physical preconditions for sustained growth and development.

As a consequence, the articulation of an optimal mix of effective and well-designed environmental and health policies is a complex, but essential task. It is one requiring the contribution and coordination of business and government actors targeting sustainable growth in the medium and long term, a policy blend producing vast and positive spillovers for the economy and protracted benefits for the whole population.

The January Roundtable will be combined with the January Session of SEA Autumn-Winter Seminars of IBSS, XJTLU.

Refreshments instead of dinner buffet will be provided. The event is free entry for DUSA Members and RMB 300 for Non-DUSA Members based on "first come, first served" principle and max. 2 registrations from one member company.

About IBSS, XJTLU

International Business School Suzhou at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University

Founded in 2013 as a school of Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, International Business School Suzhou offers a unique blend of Western and Chinese academic practices. XJTLU is an international university jointly founded in 2005 by leading institutions from both China and the UK. As the only independent Sino-British venture of its kind, XJTLU is a pioneer in the field of higher education in China. XJTLU's China insight and global outlook are integral to all undergraduates, masters and PhD studies on offer in the sciences, technology, engineering, mathematics, architecture and planning, language, culture and business.

As a part of XJTLU, IBSS's faculty and students have been able to benefit from opportunities of cross-disciplinary partnerships in research, learning and teaching.

Located in Suzhou of Jiangsu province, near Shanghai, one of the fastest-growing commercial centres in China's booming Eastern corridor, IBSS is becoming an international leader in business education and research.

IBSS's learning and teaching environment are underpinned by creative interaction and collaboration with international and domestic businesses, coupled with solid academic grounding. Thus, it is an environment that prepares Chinese students for international business and international students for doing business in or with China.

IBSS operates on strong principles of internationalism, innovation, inspiration and integrity, which together ensure that the School has a positive impact on society through its teaching, research and business engagement.

As a testament to our rapid growth we have secured some impressive achievements, in 2016 IBSS earned accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), an accolade that has been obtained by less than five per cent of business schools in the world. IBSS also broke records in becoming the youngest business school in the world to gain eligibility for EQUIS in the shortest time (within four months) in 2017. IBSS is the youngest business school to achieve the double crown of AACSB and EQUIS.
