Topic:  Enhancing the tourism industry through destination performance management

As the global tourism industry prepares to re-start, the field of "tourism destination management" has emerged as a fascinating sub-sector. Join Dr Lin-Jia Zhang during this upcoming Lunch & Learn 'Brownbag' webinar as he shares his expertise in the evaluation of tourism destination performance. Beginning by explaining how a 'nonparametric framework' can assist Destination Management Organizations (DMO) to evaluate the performance of specific tourism destinations, Dr Zhang will next turn to China's star-rated hotels as an illustration of this framework. Arguing that China's star-rated hotel sector has played an increasingly important role in the advancement of domestic tourism, he will outline how the technology-gap between high- and low-end hotels has defined the industry in recent years. Specifically, high-end domestic hotels now tend to enjoy better access to technology, foreign connections, and government policy support while low-end domestic hotels tend to offer deeper local knowledge and regional expertise. Finally, Dr Zhang will share highlights of his research research into the "spillover" between domestic high- and low-end hotels, including findings which suggest that high-end hotels are triggering the star-rated hotel sector to perform better, while low-end hotels are not only integrating technological know-how from high-end hotels but are also sharing their local knowledge expertise with high-end hotels.
